A tender soliciting concessionaires for an international airport at Jewar will probably be out in August, as per a top functionary of the nodal agency Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA).
The Ministry of Civil Aviation passed a proposal for Jewar airport in Uttar Pradesh’s Greater Noida in 2017. It is slated to be the second airport in the National Capital Region. “The bid document inviting concessionaires for Jewar airport will be made public in August. The aim is that we finalize the concessionaire by the end of this year,” YEIDA chairman, Prabhat Kumar said. Ministry of Civil Aviation Secretary, R.N. Choubey has said that he anticipates that the cornerstone of the airport will be placed in December this year once the bid is given to the chosen concessionaire.
Flight operations is likely to start by December “even if the project is not complete”, he said.
These dates were talked about previously this week in a discussion with the secretary, other officers from the Ministry, Airports Authority of India and the YEIDA, who also took a review of the airport location. The YEIDA also intends to begin acquisition of the land for the airport in July.
