Gurgaon Rapid Metro Corporation has proposed new line that is likely to connect Sikanderpur metro station with Gurgaon railway station. This will now facilitate passengers to change to DMRC’s yellow line at Sikanderpur station and be bound for IFFCO Chowk, Sheetla Mata Road and the Gurgaon railway station.

Now that the Phase 2 metro project has turned six months old, the decks are being cleared for the proposal for Phase 3 of the metro rail. This will be the means to connect Sikanderpur to Gurgaon railway station. For the residents of Gurgaon this will make commuting easier even during office prime time, as it will take away part of the crowd from the Yellow and Blue line expresses of Delhi Metro. In addition to being well-connected with the Delhi Metro, the Rapid Metro is also better off in terms of providing connectivity between different parts of Gurgaon. Last but not the least, its timings synchronize with those of Delhi Metro, which is an added advantage for Gurgaon denizens.

This period of boom arises from the background of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) that has submitted a practical workability report to the Haryana government. This is a platform for proposals presented for two lines — from Huda City Centre to Dwarka Sector 21, or from Huda City Centre to Gurgaon Railway station. Now, it is for the government to decide which one is easily manageable.

Officials from within the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) stated that the proposal for Phase 3 Rapid Metro is being debated with the officials of Haryana Mass Rapid Corporation (HMRC).

Despite everything the proposal was not accepted by the HMRC officials, who cited the reasons as lack of sufficiency, absence of wide-scale blueprint and no elaborate future facts and figures.

As confirmed by a top official of GDMA on condition of anonymity, the proposal is still in the nascent stage. According to him, this proposal was presented to HMRC by Rapid Metro functionaries, but it was diverted to the rejection tray for want of a detailed report on the project. HMRC officials are holding out for a new proposal that is expected to be more detailed than the first one.

Rapid Metro officials have maintained that recommendations of the DMRC are awaited and once they are clear, the proposal will be finalized so that the routes proposed by both the teams are of the same voice and spell convenience for commuters.

Earlier, it was suggested that the third Phase should start from Moulsari Avenue metro station and usher connectivity between Shankar Chowk, Udyog Vihar and Old Delhi-Gurgaon Road.

In line with the new blueprints, the line will now get underway from Sikanderpur station, where commuters switch to DMRC’s yellow line and proceed for IFFCO Chowk, Sheetla Mata Road and end their journey at the railway station.

Presently, Rapid Metro runs in areas between Shankar Chowk and Golf Course Extension Road, also passing through Cyber City and Golf Course Road in its route.
